According to a report from Vietnam's "Invest Online" on August 19, Vietnam's textile and apparel exports in the first half of this year surpassed Bangladesh, which was less than 12 billion U.S. dollars, with a total export value of 13 billion U.S. dollars, becoming the second largest textile and apparel exporting country after China.

Despite the severe impact of the new crown epidemic, the export value has dropped sharply, but in the first half of this year, Bangladesh Export Promotion Agency data showed that Bangladesh's garment exports in the first half of the year reached 11.92 billion U.S. dollars, and Vietnam's exports in the first half of the year were 13.18 billion U.S. dollars. In the first seven months, although Vietnam's textile and apparel exports fell by 12.1%, there was still $16.2 billion.

The vice chairman of Bangladesh Textile and Apparel Producers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Mohammad Hatem (Mohammad Hatem) said: “Due to the better results of Vietnam’s epidemic prevention and control work, the country’s textile and apparel industry has not been interrupted.”

In the past six months, Vietnam’s textile and apparel market share in the United States and the European Union has increased because Vietnam has not suspended production due to community isolation like China and Bangladesh. The leaders of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) stated that under the overall decline of the global textile and apparel industry, Vietnam's decline was only 12-14%, which is still a bright spot. Bangladesh and India both dropped 23% in the first half of this year.

However, the epidemic still has a negative impact on the global textile and garment industry, so Vietnam's textile and garment industry is not optimistic. The first half of the year was not the most difficult period, because economic and trade exchanges continued and the number of infected cases was not as high as now.

Compared with the time when the global epidemic is out of control, employment has not been restored, funds in various countries are on the verge of exhaustion, and consumer demand is declining, the third and fourth quarters of 2020 will be a real challenge for the Vietnamese textile and apparel industry.
